Coaching Employee Performance
Research is clear: managers who approach their job as a “coach” instead of a “boss” are in a far better position to create a workplace that scores high in productivity and employee engagement.
The litmus test of a good coach is the ability to give excellent corrective feedback. This is feedback that’s clear, direct, actionable, and leaves the employee with greater confidence in their ability to do their job and greater trust and respect for you, their supervisor.
We’ll cover this and other essential performance management skills in this important leadership workshop.
-
Understanding the ecosystem of employee performance
-
Employee recognition and appreciation: an essential leadership skill
-
What neuroscience teaches us about feedback
-
How to give excellent corrective feedback (with live practice)

HERE'S LEE:
I’m a Seattle-based leadership development and management training specialist. I work with a wide range of organizations — public, private, and not-for-profit — wherever people manage people. My approach is straightforward and practical with a focus on real-world skills that will make a difference immediately.
• BA in philosophy and education
• MA in leadership and culture
• M.Div with a concentration in human development (Princeton)
• 25 years of experience in direct management, leadership development, coaching, nonprofit leadership, strategic planning, and organizational development.
I’m also on staff with the University of Washington as a leadership development and OD consultant. In this role, I have the opportunity to serve the UW’s three campuses as well as UW Medicine and its partner organizations through 1:1 coaching, workshops, OD consultations, and the six leadership seminars I teach on a regular basis.
Outside of this, I work hard to stay in the “marginally cool dad” category for three young adults and have enjoyed everything about growing up in the Pacific Northwest. Back in the day, I worked as a mountaineering guide and climbing instructor and you can see a few of my adventures here.
